Our 62nd Meeting
Our 62nd Annual Meeting was held on November 2nd at the Gilliam County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall in Condon. Our Annual Meeting is always a pleasant evening out, and this year was no exception! CBEC members visited with their neighbors, while eating a wonderful dinner that was prepared locally.
Next, a concise business meeting was held, and included an update on "power" issues that concern all of us, as co-op members. Not to "toot our own horn," but we shared our accomplishments your co-op has made, since we last saw you. The final election ballots were tallied, and we announced the results of the directors to represent you, as a member-owned cooperative. You elected one (1) new director. Gary Wilde's position will serve a three (3) year term.
It is pleasant to visit with old friends, meet new ones, and talk about our cooperative concerns. Then, we had drawings for door prizes! In addition, every attending member received a token gift to take home with them.
And Members....Now for the best part
it'sFREE !!
Director Representation:
It is never too early to be thinking about whom you want to represent you as a Director for Columbia Basin Electric, in the future.
The process of nominating and electing directors is outlined in our by-laws. In short, all our members are represented by a total of 8 directors, all from different "zones," that make up all of our territory at Columbia Basin Electric. No member shall be eligible to become or remain a director or to hold any position of trust in the Cooperative who is not a bona fide resident in the area zone from which elected from the Cooperative, or who is in any way employed by or financially interested in a competing enterprise or a business selling electric energy or electric supplies to the Cooperative.
The directors represent the membership, and are your voices for the Cooperative. CBEC has board meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month, at Heppner. Cooperative members are welcome to attend.
A director should be interested in the cooperative, utility industry, and their community, and capable of independent thought analysis and making decisions in a group environment. Openness to change is an attribute of an ideal director.
Their primary duties are setting policies, contractual considerations, hiring of a general manager, planning and monitoring management's operations.
OK, are YOU or do you know of someone who is interested in becoming a Board of Director? Do you want more information? Please contact us at (541) 676-9146.![]()
